Alice Donlan

Alice Donlan provides research and evaluation expertise for several BHEF initiatives including BHEF's online resource center StrategicEdSolutions.org®.  Alice received her B.A. in Psychology from the College of William and Mary and is currently pursuing her doctorate in Educational Psychology at the University of Maryland, College Park with a certificate in Measurement, Statistics, and Evaluation. Her research focuses on school transitions, and the social influences that drive school-related outcomes.  Alice also teaches an undergraduate course on Lifespan Development at the University of Maryland, and is a co-founder of Lomax Education, a consulting group that administers program evaluations of schools and education-oriented organizations.

Daniel Goldsmith

Daniel Goldsmith is part of the Emtect consulting team that provides system dynamic modeling support to BHEF. In particular, he co-leads the modeling workshops that support the preliminary development of BHEF’s system dynamics models. Goldsmith is a Principal Consultant at PA Consulting who specializes in utilizing advanced analysis techniques to support disciplined approaches to complex challenges. He has used critical and creative thinking to develop corporate strategy, improve program management, support complex scenario planning, and harness large data sets for enterprise challenges. He completed an MBA at the Brandeis International Business School and a BA in government from the University of Virginia.

Ursula Gross

Ursula Gross contributes to BHEF's technology and web development, advising BHEF staff on emerging projects. She is currently the director of web communications for the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges, where she leads strategy and development for AGB's two sites (agb.org and agbsearch.com) and other e-communications. Her work also includes developing an e-books strategy for selling AGB's publications through Amazon, Apple, and Google.  Previously, Ursula was the associate director of marketing and public affairs at the Association of American Colleges and Universities and the associate director of communications at the Business-Higher Education Forum.

She received her M.A. in English from Georgetown University and her B.A. in business/English from Franklin and Marshall College.

Kimberly Holmes

Kimberly Holmes contributes to BHEF's research on effective practice in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) undergraduate education. She is a doctoral candidate in the Higher Education program at the University of Maryland College Park, and earned her M.Ed. in Higher Education from the College of William & Mary and her B.A. in Latin American and Iberian Studies from the University of Richmond. Her research interests include the experiences of women of color in STEM and expanding access to higher education for students of color and students from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Kimberly is also part of a research team studying the experiences of high-achieving minority students in STEM, and has co-authored and co-presented several publications and presentations on this topic. She has interned at the Education Trust and Institute for Higher Education Policy, working on projects related to undergraduate degree completion and retention in broadening STEM programs funded by the National Science Foundation. Kimberly has a wide range of experiences in higher education settings working with multicultural students, summer bridge programs, residence life, and teaching.

Sandra Loughlin

Sandra Loughlin has consulted with BHEF since 2011, providing expertise in research and evaluation for the evidence-based online resource center StrategicEdSolutions.org®. Sandra has been involved in education for over a decade, as an elementary school teacher, new teacher mentor, staff development teacher, instructor at the undergraduate and graduate levels, curriculum consultant, and program evaluator.  In particular, Sandra is interested in integrated curriculum, reading comprehension, the arts, and curricular design issues.  Sandra received her B.A. in Elementary Education from Washington Adventist University and an M.Ed. in Arts in Education from Harvard Graduate School of Education.  She is currently pursuing her doctorate in Educational Psychology at the University of Maryland, College Park in an effort to better understand how students learn from curricula that integrates visual art and reading. 

Linda Nguyen

Linda Nguyen collaborates with BHEF staff to update the U.S. STEM Education Model, and is co-founder of Emtect Solutions, LLC. She holds a B.S. and M.S. from MIT.

Stephen Pelletier

Stephen Pelletier provides ongoing writing and editorial support to BHEF. He has been a professional editor and writer since 1979. Most of his career has been in staff positions in major associations and nonprofit organizations in Washington, DC area. Pelletier opened his full-time freelance practice at the beginning of 2006, and provides editorial and communications services to a number of associations, foundations, nonprofit organizations, and corporations. Some of Pelletier's clients include the American Council on Education, the Association of American Medical Colleges, and the Institute for Higher Education Policy.

Pelletier received his M.A. in liberal studies from Georgetown University and his B.A. in journalism from the Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University.

Dan Sturtevant

Dan Sturtevant serves as BHEF's lead system dynamics modeler, and is co-founder of Emtect Solutions, LLC. He holds a B.A. and B.S. from Lehigh University, an M.S. from MIT, and is currently enrolled in a Ph.D. program in Engineering Systems from MIT. Dan has spent much of the past 15 years as a software developer designing cryptography and supercomputing software. More recently, he has been attempting to apply this engineering mindset to the design, analysis, and computer simulation of policy in the educational and economic development arenas. Since 2007, some of his clients have included the Manufacturing Industrial Council of Seattle, Boeing, Edmonds Community College, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and BHEF.
