Washington, DC (January 5, 2010) — President Obama on Dec. 16, 2009, signed a $446 billion compromise spending bill (H.R. 3288) for FY 2010 that maintains funding for Pell Grants and increases funding for Minority-Serving Institutions, TRIO Programs and GEAR UP.
The measure, which included six of the seven spending bills that had been awaiting congressional action, was approved by the Senate on Dec. 13 and the House on Dec. 10.
Utilizing a combination of appropriated funds and the mandatory funds provided in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the legislation raises the maximum Pell Grant award to $5,550 for the 2010-11 academic year, an increase that is $200 above the maximum grant available this year.
