LOOKING TO THE FUTURE: THE SKILLS FRONTIER

Over the last decade, emerging digital technologies that drive innovation have disrupted the skills marketplace, creating new high-demand skill sets and a digital skills gap between business demand and higher education production. The global pandemic accelerated these trends and further exacerbated digital transformations and inequity in the workforce. The digital skills gap continues to rapidly evolve due to widespread adoption of these emerging technologies across industries and occupations. Business expects new graduates to enter the workforce with these digital skills, while higher education also needs to adapt to a mission of lifelong learning.

BHEF’s members have built better skills in the data science and analytics and cybersecurity fields by developing leading edge credentials and pathways to high-skill employment. But what are the next skills frontiers that higher education will need to address?

BHEF’s Summer 2022 Member Meeting will focus on two main areas: 1) reviewing BHEF’s impact over the last decade, and 2) charting the direction for the future. BHEF will recognize the success of its members over the last decade who have innovated in the data science and analytics, cybersecurity, and other key fields by sharing a 10-year retrospective report and engaging members in highlighting successes and innovations.

This meeting will emphasize emerging skill trends and feature leading experts in business and higher education who have taken an agile approach to preparing workers and students for the skills of the future. BHEF members will receive an exclusive preview to our new Annual Signature Report, in collaboration with the Burning Glass Institute and Wiley. The report takes a supply and demand approach to emerging skills by identifying the most important knowledge and skills needed, comparing that with the higher education pipeline, and showcasing model collaborations and pathways.

Please note: Please note: In regards to COVID-19 and safety precautions, BHEF will be following state guidelines and those of our host location. As such, all visitors will be asked to provide proof of being fully vaccinated or evidence of a negative rapid antigen or PCR test result, valid for seven days from the test date. There is always the chance of exposure to COVID-19, and we encourage everyone to take their own risk factors and personal level of comfort into account when deciding to attend.
