Adapting to Demographic Shifts: Fresh Strategies for Inclusive Solutions

The demographic cliff is approaching, and the implications for the future of work and learning are significant. A decline in birth rates, an increase in the aging population, a large population of men dropping out of higher education and the workforce, and a change in demographics impact how we design strategies for talent recruitment, enrollment, student success, knowledge transfer, economic growth, and more. We will explore the key shifts in worker and learner behaviors and demographics, what business and academic leaders need to do to design for a changing moment, and what solutions we can better use to support a changing student population based on selected case studies and varied approaches to addressing the needs of today’s learners and workers.

Co-Designing the Work-Based Learning Credentials of the Future

The partnership between business and higher education is critical for preparing learners for the modern workplace. New models make undergraduate education less expensive, shorter, and more relevant to industry needs and embed real work into the learning experience. This interactive design session will explore new models and solutions to bridge learning and work in the undergraduate experience in a way that is responsive to the needs of learners. Attendees will work in groups to design and build promising models and identify the capabilities needed to implement these new models.  Key outcomes of this session include:

  • Generate ideas and solutions aimed at bridging the gap between learning and work
  • Identify next steps for further exploration and implementation with BHEF and the field at-large
