Kate Sutherland
Senior Advisor
Kate Sutherland is a Senior Advisor to BHEF and Principal of Kate Sutherland Advisors, where she brings expertise in helping colleges and universities become more career-aligned and responsive to the needs of employers and the labor market. Her work centers on guiding institutions through the change management required to build durable, demand-driven pathways between higher education and the workforce — from curriculum design to employer partnerships to enrollment strategy.
Sutherland brings a dual perspective: as a former higher education executive and as a longtime advisor to the sector. As Vice President at Regis College, she led change management from the inside, launching more than 15 new academic programs aligned to employer and labor market demand, building a comprehensive employer partnership strategy, and doubling graduate enrollment. She also previously served as Managing Director at Tyton Partners, an education-focused consulting firm, where her practice focused on helping higher education institutions, education technology companies, and nonprofits improve performance, competitiveness, and financial sustainability.
Her recent relevant work includes strategic planning facilitation, best-practice analysis, assessing prospective student demand to inform work-integrated learning at higher education institutions, evaluating corporate engagement programs at higher education institutions, and conducting workforce needs assessments.
Sutherland is a frequent presenter who is asked to share her expertise at various events, including ASU+GSV Summit, GlobeMindED, the New Start Summit, and LearnLaunch. She holds a B.A. in Economics from Boston College and an MBA from Boston University.
