The National Higher Education and Workforce Initiative: Forging Strategic Partnerships for Undergraduate Innovation and Workforce Development

This is the first in a series of BHEF playbooks intended to assist companies, higher education institutions, private philanthropies, membership associations, professional societies, government agencies, and other stakeholders seeking to understand the potential value of investing in coordinated strategic, long-term partnerships to increase the persistence of undergraduate students, particularly women and minorities, toward degree attainment and entering the 21st century workplace.

U.S. STEM Solutions Summit: Business and Higher Education: Responding to STEM Workforce Needs

BHEF CEO Brian Fitzgerald is moderating the session "Business and Higher Education: Responding to STEM Workforce Needs."

Despite the weak national economy, many well-paying jobs requiring STEM degrees are going unfilled. Business and industry are not finding the talent they need in key fields, and many recent college graduates seeking jobs are frustrated that their skills and academic backgrounds do not align with workforce needs. This session will focus on strategies to align STEM undergraduate education with the highest demand jobs and increase the number of STEM graduates.

Strengthening Pathways for Higher Education into Careers

Co-hosted with BHEF, Battelle, Case Western Reserve University, The Ohio State University, and The Council of Graduate Schools, this event showcased the progress made in implementing the BHEF-led regional higher education and workforce projects with IBM since the launch last June. It included presentations by BHEF members Gordon Gee, Barbara Snyder, and Jeff Wadsworth.  In their presentations, the members set forth their visions for the role these projects can play in transforming the Ohio workforce, while serving as key national examples of successful BHEF projects.

BHEF Members Announce the National Higher Education Workforce Initiative and Collaborate on 21st Century Workforce Competitiveness Needs at Winter Meeting

(March 5, 2013) – The Business-Higher Education Forum (BHEF) launched its National Higher Education and Workforce Initiative (the “Initiative”) at its Winter Meeting, where featured sessions centered on action-oriented solutions for enhancing business-higher education collaboration and scaling, improving 21st century workplace competencies, and adopting disruptive technologies.

Business Summit for Education Reform

Brian Fitzgerald will speak at the Business Summit for Education Reform, an event hosted by the Greater Des Moines Partnership.  The goal of the summit is to create "strong and united business voice from across the State to take a leadership role in advocating for transformative reform in education this legislative session," and Fitzgerald will join other national and local experts who have successfully improved education systems.
